Experiencing writer’s block when trying to figure out what to write in a Father’s Day card is actually quite common, but it doesn’t have to be. All you need to do is follow along for the next five minutes or so and you’ll be writing like Shakespeare before you can say MAYDAY. Just joking — you’ve got this!
Step 1: Pick a card (not just any greeting card)
Trying to figure out what to write before you purchase the card is like putting the cart before the horse — yeehaw! Let the card be the foundation so you can craft what you write around its theme. Take this fishing Father’s Day card for example. There’s already a ton of text on the cover so you could get away with something like the following:
Suggested inside text: Happy Father’s Day. Love, So-and-so
Suggested inside text: Can’t wait to spend the day together. Happy Father’s Day!
Step 2: Let the writing begin
Sometimes just grabbing a spare sheet of paper and jotting things down gets the creative juices flowing. Our best advice is not to overthink it and if you get stuck, walk away for a bit. Just remember, as cliché as it may be, it’s the thought that counts — and this Father’s Day card from the family is a perfect example.
Existing inside text: We’d be lost without you!
Suggested inside text: Happy Father’s Day. Love, So-and-so
Suggested inside text: Thank you for being an amazing father and husband. Happy Father’s Day.
Step 3: Practice makes perfect
Now that you’ve got a better sense of what to write in a Father’s Day card, it’s your turn to give it a try. What would you write in this father-to-be Father’s Day card? Take the “less is more” approach and just sign your name, go all out and run with the joke or take a heartfelt approach. Sometimes juxtaposition works well too so don’t be afraid to throw the rulebook out the window and have fun with it!
Existing inside text: Don’t drop it on its head and you’ll do just fine. Happy Father-to-be Father’s Day!
